Kai Kennedy not in Rangers plans at Ibrox as talk of January exit agreement emerges – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox

Tam McManus expects young attacker Kai Kennedy to leave Rangers with his deal at Ibrox due to expire at the end of the season.

Kennedy, 20, was a highly-rated prospect at Ibrox but he’s struggled in recent seasons and currently finds himself on loan in Scottish League One with Falkirk.

Football Scotland reported earlier this week (27 December) that the Scotland Under-21 international is weighing up whether to leave the Gers for good in 2023 and that he’s expected to agree a pre-contract elsewhere.

It is understood that he’s likely to agree a move in January with clubs in both Scotland and England keen on signing him.

McManus was once excited by the promise that Kennedy showcased in Govan but he doesn’t believe the youngster is in the Glasgow club’s plans any more.

“With Kai Kennedy, he burst onto the scene at Rangers a couple of seasons ago. But I don’t think it’s quite worked out for him since,” McManus told Ibrox News.

He’s bounced about. Inverness, Raith, Dunfermline Hamilton, Falkirk. That’s five loan spells so I don’t think he’s in the long-term plans at Rangers.

I don’t think they’ll be too disappointed he’ll be on his way.

He’s still a young player and he’s one I’ve always kept my eye on.”

Kennedy has played 12 times in League One for Falkirk this season, scoring two goals and supplying three assists.

In other Rangers news, a £5million twist has emerged in Southampton’s bid to sign Ryan Kent.
