Rangers ‘disaster’ as Michael Beale left crushed by behind-the-scenes Ibrox update

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox

Steven Davis’ season-ending injury blow is a “disaster” for Rangers, according to Tam McManus.

Davis, 37, is out of contract in the summer and may have now already played his final game for the Ibrox giants due to this major setback.

Michael Beale was quoted by Sky Sports on 27 December saying that he’s “devastated” by Davis’ injury, adding that the veteran midfielder is due to undergo surgery in early January.

Beale also hinted at a “plan” for Davis at Ibrox, suggesting that his time in Govan may not be quite up yet.

But McManus believes the news is a massive blow for the Light Blues as Davis is a big part of that squad despite not playing as much as he used to.

“It’s a disaster,” McManus told Ibrox News.

“Listen, he doesn’t play every week but his influence in the team is still pretty big.

He’s always fit, when he’s in the team he does well, he’s a terrific player and a perfect servant for Rangers.

“He’s 37 years old so time’s ticking for him but I saw Michael Beale’s comment saying that he’s got the legs of a 27-year-old.

Davis has played 16 times in all competitions for Rangers this season, scoring two goals in the process.

His last appearance came when he was substituted into his side’s 3-2 win over Hibernian at Ibrox on 15 December.

Across two spells at Ibrox, Davis has played 360 times in total for the Gers.
