Kevin Thomson lauds Malik Tillman as he scores stunner in Rangers win v Motherwell

Kevin Thomson was left gushing over Malik Tillman’s “wonderful” goal for Rangers against Motherwell as Michael Beale’s side cruised to three points at Ibrox on Wednesday night (28 December).

With Rangers two goals up after the hour mark, the Steelmen threw caution to the wind as they tried to reduce the deficit – which in turn left them vulnerable in transition.

When the Gers broke down the right flank, and Alfredo Morelos found the 20-year-old midfielder with a well-timed pass, there was still plenty to do.

However, the Bayern Munich loanee calmly sent the Motherwell defender inside and out before striking a low, smart finish in the far corner of the net.

Commentating live on Rangers TV (Wednesday 28 December), ex-Rangers midfielder Thomson described the smart finish by Tilman, which helped Rangers cruise into an insurmountable 3-0 lead.

He said: “Great finish [by Tilman] back across Liam Kelly.

“You can just see his body movement just shifts, that wee delicate touch with the outside of his foot just to get a yard, shifts it back inside. Wonderful finish.”

Game changer

The talent Tillman possesses is quite frightening.

At just 20 years old, the midfielder has the ability to pop up with crucial interventions on a regular basis. Yes, he occasionally goes missing throughout matches, and Beale can still improve his decision-making on the ball, but his potency in the final third is second to none in the Rangers squad.

Against Motherwell, the German-born ace once again floated in and out of the game in phases, however, always posed a threat in the attacking third. His positivity on the ball and direct running is something Beale will highly regard and is one of the key reasons he has featured in every match since the manager’s arrival at the club.

Ross Wilson and Beale will be looking to snap the youngster up on a permanent transfer in January, as it won’t be long before some of Europe’s elite may come sniffing for the Rangers star.

In other Rangers news, an Ibrox legend has praised one man playing out of position under Beale while criticising another.
