Team news: Four players back training ahead of Rangers v Motherwell clash

Michael Beale has revealed that four players are back training after suffering injury setbacks as Rangers get set to face Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.

Kemar Roofe and Antonio Colak are back training but are not “100 per cent” after not being involved in recent matches for the Gers (Rangers Twitter account, 27 December).

Allan McGregor and Borna Barisic are also both back fit and training ahead of the fixture at Ibrox and John Souttar should be back by the end of January after his long injury layoff.

Good start

A run of wins is exactly what the Rangers manager was looking for after taking the reins at Ibrox. The upcoming match against Motherwell is another must-win with the Old Firm Derby now firmly in view. A win against Steven Hammell’s side will see The Hoops travel to Ibrox with slightly more pressure on their shoulders.

Nine points separate the two sides, but with multiple Old Firm fixtures still to take place over the course of the season, keeping Ange Postecoglou’s men within arm’s length is absolutely essential for Beale. The former QPR boss will certainly be hoping for more consistent displays from his side after a fairly erratic start since his return to Ibrox.

The January window will be the ideal chance for Beale to shape his squad and make decisions on players who may not have a future at the club.

A win against Celtic, a good transfer window and an improvement in performances will leave fans feeling a lot more optimistic heading into the second half of the 2022/23 season.

In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
