£10m update emerges on Rangers quest to seal January transfer for Sunderland striker Ross Stewart

Rangers will reportedly not be able to shell out £10million in order to sign Sunderland striker Ross Stewart in January.

According to Give Me Sport journalist Dean Jones, while Gers want a striker, Stewart may be out of their reach once the window opens.

He claims that the pursuit of the Ibrox outfit will only get interesting if the Wearside outfit drops their asking rate for the player.

Rangers

Jones said, “Rangers aren’t going to be spending £10million on him. That figure is out of reach.

“If Sunderland insist on that being the fee, then it’s not going to happen. But if it starts to drop, it might become interesting.”

Makes sense

Stewart would undoubtedly be a good signing for Rangers and would in some way add value to the first team.

His director of football, Kristjaan Speakman, described him as “incredible” over the summer [Chronicle Live] and he’s been on Rangers’ radar for a while.

However, there’s a budget and every player has a valuation that must not be exceeded so Gers know just how far they can push their boundaries.

They will also consider the previous injury record 26-year-old and think that he’s not worth spending eight figures on.

Antonio Colak has exceeded expectations and signing an upgrade on him may not be the first priority and it’s likely that the club will spend close to what they make from Alfredo Morelos’ sale.

Thus far, it does not seem conclusive either way as to where the Colombian will end up beyond January.

However, if he doesn’t want to sign a new deal this is the last window Gers can make something from his sale as he’ll be a free agent in the summer.

In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
