Steven Davis Rangers career could be over after major news emerges from Ibrox in last 24 hours
Steven Davis may never feature for Rangers again after he picked up an injury that will rule him out for the rest of the season.
The Northern Ireland captain’s contract at the club runs out at the end of the season and at 37, there do not appear to be any plans of getting him to pen a new deal.
With him now not expected to play any further games until May, there’s a good chance that fans have seen the last of him in a Rangers jersey.
Via Twitter, Football Scotland wrote, “Steven Davis’ Rangers career could be over as midfielder suffers season-ending injury.”
Tough situation
The Rangers hierarchy do find themselves in an extremely tough situation as the plan always seemed to be to let him play until the end of the season.
After that, they could give him his send-off match and bid farewell to everything he’s done for the club in the two stints he’s been there.
However, now, by the time he’s fit, his deal will have expired and if Gers do want him on, they will have to offer him a new deal.
If they do feel that his wages are too high but still want to retain his services because of his dressing-room influence, he could be given a short-term deal with reduced wages.
We think that will be something that the fans will also like as they will hate to see the 37-year-old bidding farewell to the club in this manner.
It remains to be seen what the club eventually ends up doing as this is not going to be an easy decision for them to make.
In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
