Michael Beale could be inclined to sign midfielder for Rangers after Steven Davis injury

Michael Beale could be inclined to sign a midfielder in January following the injury to Rangers midfielder Steven Davis, according to a report from The Scotsman.

Davis, 37, has picked up a knee injury and he is set to miss the rest of the campaign. He has managed just three starts in the league this season.

His deal runs out at the end of the season and the chances are high that he may have played his last game for the club.

Pressing issue

The midfield is one area that is a pressing concern for Michael Beale.

Davis is not a regular starter at the club, but his intelligence and passing ability make him a valuable asset.

His absence will leave a big void in the squad, and Beale may need to replenish it.

Beale has the likes of John Lundstram, Glen Kamara, Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack in the side, but the Bears have faced a lack of creativity and dynamism this season.

Ianis Hagi will make a return after a long time and he would be like a new signing. But, he is also returning from a knee injury and will need time to get back to full sharpness.

Summer signing Tom Lawrence is also out injured while Malik Tillman, on loan from Bayern Munich, has struggled for consistency despite his vast potential.

Teenage sensation Alex Lowry will be expected to step up in the absence of Davis, but a new central midfielder probably is needed in January.

In other Rangers news, a £5million twist has emerged in Southampton’s bid to sign Ryan Kent.
