Underperforming Rabbi Matondo displaying extreme void of confidence for Rangers

Rangers Review Journalist Joshua Barrie was left worried by Rabbi Matondo and his extreme void of confidence for Rangers in their 1-0 win over Ross County on 23 December.

Rangers and Michael Beale sailed to a fairly comfortable win in the Christmas clash in the Highlands but Matondo failed to impress in a cameo from the bench.

Barrie confessed that Matondo is “underperforming” in a Light Blue shirt and has lacked end product when given chances to score.

“Thought he looked totally void of confidence after coming on,” said Barrie in response to a fan on Twitter.

“Has maybe struggled from a lack of consistent minutes, coming into an underperforming team etc, but you’re right, has really lacked end product.”

Tough project for Beale ahead.

Since taking over as Rangers manager, Beale has faced his fair share of challenges and getting Matondo back to playing with confidence again may be one of his biggest to date.

The Welshman has struggled to maintain consistency and has faced criticism for its performances in both the Scottish Premiership and UEFA Champions League.

One of the biggest issues Beale has faced is a lack of depth in the squad, the team has been hit hard by injuries and has had to rely on younger, less experienced players to fill the gaps.

This certainly hasn’t helped players like Matondo who have had to come in and out of a team who has been massively underperforming.

Nevertheless, this isn’t an excuse for some of the wingers’ shocking outings and the 23 December clash at Ross County was arguably one of his worst.

The £3m Rangers paid for Matondo seems a lot for what fans have witnessed so far from the 22-year-old, he needs to improve drastically.

In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
