Rangers: Scottish media blow Michael Beale quotes out of proportion – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox

Tam McManus warns Rangers manager Michael Beale to tread carefully with his words to stop a media frenzies like he’s caused recently.

Earlier this month, Beale referred to Celtic as “the other team”, a quote that was repeated on headlines across the entire Scottish mainstream media.

While it’s a phrase that’s been used back and forth between the two Old Firm rivals, newspapers like the Daily Record decided it was newsworthy enough to run multiple stories on it.

McManus believes Beale’s inexperience means that he could get caught up in things like that every now.

But he adds that the most important thing for the Englishman is to just keep winning matches in charge of the Gers, who now have three Premiership wins in three with him at the helm.

“You know what it’s like up here. They’ll pick up on everything and he’s just come through the door,” McManus told Ibrox News.

He’s a rookie in managerial terms so I think he’ll learn quickly that the press will pick up on everything in terms of Rangers and Celtic.

I don’t think it was anything, really, but the media are making a big thing of it.

He called Celtic ‘the other team’ and that’ll just rile Celtic supporters a bit.

The most important thing for Beale is to win games, not what he says in the press.”
