Contractual terms could see Rangers midfielder Steven Davis sealing Ibrox exit

Michael Beale may decide not to extend Steven Davis’ contract at Rangers when it expires at the end of the season.

The 37-year-old was first on the club’s books nearly 15 years ago and has come a long way to establish himself as one the most iconic players at Ibrox.

However, time catches up with everyone and Davis could very well be on his way out of the club and perhaps not even play again for them.

His recent injury has only complicated things further and if Beale is here to rebuild this side and not rely on past laurels, it’s pretty clear that the 37-year-old will be shown the door.

He will turn 38 on New Year’s Day and that’s a good age for someone to begin thinking about life after football rather than fighting for a first-team role.

Instead of retaining him, it’s better that the club get him off the payroll and then use the additional funds to bring someone younger and hungrier.

Davis certainly deserves the perfect send-off and will get it on the final day of the season if the decision is made to part ways with him.

He’s loved by all the fans at Ibrox and Beale too, will be appreciative of what he’s done for the club in the past and nobody will be able to repay him for it.

We will be surprised if Ross Wilson or someone in the hierarchy calls for the extension of his current deal.

In other Rangers news, the club are now fancying their chances of major a January transfer after Fabrizio Romano’s update with a move on the cards.
