Mikel Arteta drops surprise Rangers verdict after Old Firm question
Mikel Arteta has revealed he was “surprised” by the Old Firm derby during his time with Rangers after the Arsenal manager was quizzed on the fiercest rivalry he’s been involved in.
The 40-year-old played for the Light Blues from 2002 until 2004 and experienced the Old Firm Derby first-hand during his time north of the border.
Arteta was asked what the fiercest derby he has played in was by Jamie Carragher, and the Arsenal boss was extremely diplomatic with his answer.

“Now that I am here, then I have to say the North London derby,” said Arteta (Jamie Carragher Sky Sports interview, 21 December).
“But one that probably has surprised me or I was really impressed with was the Old Firm derby when I was in Glasgow. That was electric.”

Although the North London Derby is probably the pick of Premier League rivalries at the moment, we all know it doesn’t come close to the deep-rooted nature of the Old Firm Derby. Arsenal and Spurs fans work together and are friendly outside of supporting their clubs.
We all know that is simply not the case between Celtic and Rangers. The next Old Firm clash is fast approaching, with Michael Beale looking to close the gap on the Scottish Premiership leaders on 2 January. It’s looking like a must-win for the Light Blues if they wish to chase down their Glasgow rivals at the top of the table.

The late win at Aberdeen was absolutely vital ahead of two more crucial matches against Ross County and Motherwell before the turn of the year. The Gers will be hoping for The Hoops to drop points in their upcoming matches against St Johnstone and Hibernian.
