Journalist shares Rangers transfer news that Michael Beale told him about January

Rangers have no intention in signing a goalkeeper in the January transfer window with full faith being put in Allan McGregor, Michael Beale has confirmed.

The Light Blues boss spoke to Rangers Review journalist Derek Clark about the plans for the winter window but reiterated his confidence in the 40-year-old number one.

McGregor has come under fire since the restart of the Premiership with both Hibernian and Aberdeen scoring twice past him so far.

“Michael Beale tells me he doesn’t plan to sign a goalkeeper in January,” Clark revealed via his personal Twitter account. “Also adds he has a lot of trust in Robby McCrorie and is undecided whether to send him out on loan in January.”

McCrorie is yet to play a game this season for Rangers with Jon McLaughlin having started the season between the sticks under Giovanni van Bronckhorst before McGregor retook the gloves.

Obvious

Goalkeepers may be difficult to come by in the January transfer window compared to the summer but that does not mean Beale should be totally ignoring a major problem area for the club.

You only have to look at the large number of goals conceded by Rangers in all competitions this season to realise that something is not right with the defensive unit and while some of that can be put on the injury problems, the goalkeeper’s union have to shoulder some of the blame.

McGregor has probably been past it for a number of seasons now and only seems to get new deals thanks to a good month or two around February/March time every year.

McLaughlin can’t be considered the future of the club either at 34 years of age as a backup and McCrorie is either ready now or he never will be.

A loan will do him no good at all so the only choices for Beale should be playing McCrorie or signing a new goalkeeper and it seems he doesn’t want to do either.
