Ross Stewart would shine at Rangers amid transfer speculation as striker makes goalscoring Sunderland return – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox

Tam McManus doesn’t see rumours linking Ross Stewart with a move to Rangers go away after the Sunderland striker made a goalscoring return from injury at the weekend.

Stewart, 26, came off the bench to net Sunderland’s only goal in a 1-1 draw with Hull City in the English Championship on Saturday (17 December).

It was the Scotland international’s first appearance since August after suffering a serious hamstring injury.

He’s now scored six goals and supplied three assists in eight league appearances for Sunderland this season.

Rangers have been linked with signing the ex-Ross County striker.

On 28 November, Football League World reported that Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic are both interested in the centre-forward, whose contract at the Stadium of Light expires at the end of the season.

McManus claims Stewart is a boyhood Gers fan and firmly believes the Black Cats hitman would be keen on making the move to Ibrox.

Speaking to Ibrox News, McManus said: “I don’t think the rumours will ever go away.

He’s Scottish, he’s a Rangers supporter, he’s back in the team at Sunderland and I think he’d do well at Ibrox.

He’s something Rangers don’t have. He’s a big, target-man striker who you can get the ball into early and play off. I don’t think Rangers have got that type of player in there so it’ll be interesting to see if those links continue.

Stewart would jump at the chance to play for Rangers but it’s whether they have the money because Sunderland will be looking for a few quid for him.”
