Jim White raves about Scott Arfield in stunned reaction to Rangers drama at Aberdeen

Jim White was stunned by the finish as Rangers stole all three points at Aberdeen with two stoppage time goals from Scott Arfield.

Michael Beale was staring down his first defeat as Gers boss until 34-year-old Arfield forced home twice in seven minutes of added on time, to go with Fashion Sakala’s early strike.

That made it two wins from two for the new manager by the same 3-2 scoreline, who gave the performance five out of 10, but full marks for mentality to pull it out of the bag at the death, but White was delighted by the drama.

Posting on his personal Twitter account after the final whistle the talkSPORT host wrote: “Some finish by RangersFC at AberdeenFC tonight! Take a bow Scott Arfield, take a bow! 2-3”.

Some way somehow

Beale clearly has issues to resolve with this team because it is not going to be sustainable to let in two every time out and expect to score three, especially not in this way.

But his arrival has made a difference since it is hard to imagine the defeated-looking squad under Giovanni van Bronckhorst digging a crucial three points out in the same situation.

It remains to be seen how long Arfield’s Rangers career still has to run, with his current one-year extension expiring in the summer, but he showed his value at Pittodrie on Tuesday night (20 December).

Rangers

Defensively the injury issues have put the Light Blues in a hole, but the options available aren’t doing enough currently, so that is a priority for the new regime to address.

But if Beale and company can continue to get maximum points in one way or another until the January transfer window opens that is all that can really be asked of them.

It was a perfect finish for Gers fans this week but it wasn’t an overall performance that will overly please them, although this side were always going to be a work in progress and two wins from two is a positive with Ross County next up on Friday (23 December).
