Connor Goldson uses Rangers v Aberdeen comments to take swipe at Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Rangers left it extremely late to beat Aberdeen on Tuesday, with Scott Arfield popping up with a last-gasp brace to secure a 3-2 win.

Michael Beale looked set to suffer his first loss as Rangers manager on Tuesday evening, with his side trailing Aberdeen 2-1 with just minutes remaining on the clock.

However, seven additional minutes injected some hope and belief in his squad and Arfield – who had come off the bench in the second half – scored in the 95th and 97th minute to give Gers a vital three points.

Rangers

Connor Goldson made his return to the starting lineup at Pittodrie Stadium and claimed after the match that Rangers would have never turned that match around six weeks ago.

“In the last six to eight weeks when I was watching from the stand, we probably wouldn’t have won those games,” Goldson told Rangers TV, as quoted by The Scotsman.

“I have been watching like the fans, it hasn’t been nice, because when we have conceded goals it has looked like we couldn’t come back into games.

“Obviously the boys have tried their best but it hasn’t happened, we haven’t created chances but we kept going and luckily got two chances and Scotty put them away.”

Giovanni van Bronckhorst

Despite not directly mentioning him, it’s clear that Goldson is suggesting such a comeback was never possible under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Goldson watched from the sidelines during the final few weeks of the Dutchman’s reign and so had a front-row view of how miserable performances were in the final games before he was sacked.

Goldson’s comments also show that the players feel much more capable of winning matches under Beale. The squad still looks extremely low on confidence, but the grit and desire shown in the last two matches is something fans haven’t seen for months under Van Bronckhorst.
