Ryan Porteous transfer to Rangers would be done by now if he was joining – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox

Tam McManus has doubts about whether Rangers are trying to sign Ryan Porteous amid speculation linking the Hibernian centre-back with a controversial move to Ibrox.

Porteous, 23, has confirmed that he won’t be signing a new deal at Easter Road, meaning he’ll be available to clubs like the Gers in January on a pre-contract basis.

Speculation linking the one-time Scotland international with a move to Govan started when Clyde manager Jim Duffy suggested that Rangers and Celtic are both keen on the centre-back [Clyde Superscoreboard].

It’s been rubbished quite a few times but rumblings have remained. Even Kris Boyd [Scottish Sun] has urged his former club to make a move for Porteous, who’s been involved in multiple controversial incidents when playing against Rangers.

“He probably would be [good enough to play for Rangers],” McManus told Ibrox News.

I think the problem with Rangers is that they’re only just getting their starting centre-halves back fit and that might be why they’re said to be in the market for a new centre-back.

If they can get Goldson and Davies back fit then all of a sudden, you’re looking pretty strong back there.

I think Porteous will go down to England.

I think he’ll go down south somewhere, maybe the Championship in England.

If Rangers and Celtic are really interested, it would be done by now or you’d have heard more about it.”
