Rangers must explore transfer for St Mirren midfielder Keanu Baccus

Rangers must explore making a move for Australia World Cup hotshot Keanu Baccus after former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen said he could move to a “bigger” club in Scotland.

The 24-year-old St. Mirren star enhanced his popularity with soaring performances at the FIFA World Cup and with the midfielder already settled in Scotland, Rangers should capitalise.

Meulensteen confessed that Baccus has “boundless energy” to go with his technique which makes him a shoo-in to make a move to a bigger club in Scotland.

“Perhaps he could also move to one of the bigger clubs in Scotland,” said Meulensteen as quoted by The Herald.

“He has a lot of great attributes to his game, which is why he got the opportunities he did in Qatar. And he made the most of every situation there.

“I could see him go to France, Spain or the English Championship too and fit in there because he has such boundless energy to go with his technique.”

Midfield reinforcements.

Rangers and Michael Beale are in the market for some midfield reinforcements in January and making a move for a player who’s already settled in the Scottish Premiership makes a lot of sense.

Rumours continue to swirl over the possible departure of Glen Kamara and Baccus would provide a savvy replacement should the Fin leave Ibrox.

Baccus looked phenomenal in the FIFA World Cup and whilst you can’t get too carried away with one-off tournament performances, he’s displayed time and time again that he can do it domestically at St. Mirren too.

Having only joined St. Mirren in the summer, the defensive midfielder is unlikely to hold any loyalties towards the club, which may also go in the Gers’ favour.

The chance at a better, bigger contract and the opportunity to be part of Beale’s revolution could be the icing on the cake to tempt Baccus away from St Mirren Park.

One thing is for sure, he’d be a savvy subtle signing, that could do wonders for the Light Blues domestically and judging from his World Cup outings, in European competition too.
