Rangers midfielder Steven Davis can be a “Rolls Royce” at Ibrox despite his age – Keith Jackson
Keith Jackson has labelled Rangers midfielder Steven Davis a “Rolls Royce” and believes he can play a huge role in Michael Beale’s integration at the club this season.
The Gers stalwart, who will turn 38 years old before Celtic take to Ibrox on January 2, was a bit part figure under Giovanni van Bronckhorst after moving to the club in 2019.
Despite lacking the physical attributes of some of his teammates, Daily Record journalist Jackson admitted that his experience and ability to control a match could prove vital later this season.

He wrote for the Daily Record: “But, despite his advancing years, Davis retains the qualities of a Rolls Royce and the ability to direct the rest of the traffic from the centre of the pitch.
“Put it this way, he ought to have had a far greater influence on his team than he has been allowed to over the last 18 months of underuse and Beale may already have identified his true value.”

Dressing room leader
Despite his age, there were many calls from fans for Davis to feature more regularly under Van Bronckhorst, as the Gers lacked leaders on the pitch.
The 37-year-old has only made eight appearances so far this season but could now be given a new leash of life under Beale at Ibrox.
Having featured heavily during Rangers’ stunning Europa League campaign last year, the Northern Ireland international was rewarded with a fresh contract extension in the summer.
But the question to many fans is – can he still live with the pace of the Scottish Premiership?
If the Bears do have to rely on Davis in big matches, his age could be the undoing of the side in a big match like the Old Firm derby.
Even if he doesn’t feature too much on the pitch, Davis’ importance in the dressing room cannot be understated. He will always remain a pivotal figure to the Gers, but to what extent, only Beale knows.
