Rangers: Michael Stewart wowed by Malik Tillman as footage shown on BBC Scotland

Michael Stewart has been left impressed by Malik Tillman for his outstanding performance in the 3-2 win for Rangers against Hibernian on Thursday (15 December).

Tillman provided two assists in the game, including the vital pass for Alfredo Morelos who scored the winner in the Scottish Premiership clash.

Stewart, while discussing the third goal for Rangers on BBC Scotland, has been left stunned by the pass, skill, and run from Tillman in the build up as the footage was shown.

“This is not only a great pass, which it is, that sort of run is exactly what Rangers have been lacking,” said Stewart on BBC Scotland (17 December).

“It’s a great bit of skill but most important for me is the run. Tillman making that run from deep in behind the defence. Rangers haven’t had that that for most of the season.”

New hero?

Tillman could become the new hero at Ibrox under Michael Beale after his spectacular performance.

The youngster, who joined from Bayern Munich on loan during the summer, has done well in patches, but he has lacked consistency so far.

This is one area that he needs to improve going forward, and there is a talent here that can be properly nurtured.

Rangers have an option to sign him permanently in the summer, and the performance of Tillman in the next few months will be vital in making that decision.

It wasn’t an easy victory for the home side. They were trailing 2-1 at the break, but the team showed great fighting spirit under the new manager and grabbed all three points.

What has been really refreshing to watch is the fluid movement of the forward line that was clearly lacking under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The defence remains a concern, but it is bound to improve when key players like Connor Goldson, Ben Davies and John Souttar return.
