Hibs make strong January transfer decision on Ryan Porteous amid Rangers link

Hibernian will be happy to accept cash from elsewhere for Ryan Porteous amid interest from Rangers, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Writing on his Patreon (18 December), the newspaper journalist shared that Rangers have been linked with a move for Porteous, but Hibs do not want him to join any Scottish rivals.

Porteous can leave the club for free next summer, but Hull City could make a low offer when the January window opens. Hibs are still looking for a decent fee for the Scottish defender.

“Hull City are keen on Hibs contract rebel centre half Ryan Porteous,” wrote Nixon.

“The Tigers are looking at the Scotland defender and could make a low offer when the window opens.

“Hibs are still looking for a decent fee for Porteous who can leave for nothing at the end of the season but they may have to compromise.

“Rangers and Celtic have also been linked with Porteous but Hibs would be happier to take a cash offer from elsewhere next month rather than see him stay in Scotland.”

Unlikely

Nixon shared on Twitter on 7 December that he has heard rumours of Porteous being wanted by Rangers, but as of now, no clubs have made any approach to sign the player. [The Scotsman, 8 December].

The Times reported on 16 December that the Bears are unlikely to make any contact with Hibs to sign Porteous, although his latest performance in the 3-2 loss at Ibrox could change Michael Beale’s transfer plans.

Beale was full of praise for Porteous after the game, but he made it very clear that the Bears are not considering a move for him in January.

There have been suggestions that the Gers should look to sign a new centre-back in January, but it seems unlikely.

Beale should get Connor Goldson and Ben Davies back by the end of this month, and John Souttar should return by the end of January.

With Leon King and James Sands around, there’s no need to spend on a centre-back right now.
