BBC pundit shares £6m Rangers signing view on Malik Tillman after what he’s seen

Kenny Miller believes tat Rangers forward Malik Tillman has got brilliant skills to be a big player but he is still sceptical about whether it is worth “splashing millions” on him to make his move permanent in the summer.

Writing his column for the Sunday Mail (18 Dec, pages 62 & 63), Miller, who works for BBC Sport, has praised Tillman for his “great vision and technique” to evade two players before passing the ball to Alfredo Morelos who scored the winner in the 3-2 victory against Hibernian on Thursday (15 December).

Tillman joined the Gers in the summer window from Bayern Munich on loan and the Scottish giants have the option to buy him for £6 million (BILD journalist, Christian Falk, 14 September) permanently next summer.

“Malik Tillman too was impressive. There’s no doubting his ability but it’s been his application that’s been questioned,” wrote Miller.

“He has good feet for a big player and it was great vision and technique to beat two men and deliver the pass to allow Alfredo to stroke home the winner.

“Being honest, he still has to show he’s worth splashing millions on to make his loan deal permanent in the summer.

“It’s up to the young American to use the next five months to show it would be money well spent.”

Hint?

It appears that Michael Beale wants to keep him at the club beyond next summer.

The 42-year-old made it clear that he wants Tillman to stay at Ibrox beyond his loan spell (BBC Sport, 10 December) and there’s every chance the club could spend the money on him to make his move permanent.

Having said that, £6m is a big amount for Rangers, and they must not rush to seal the deal. The next few months will be crucial. If Tillman maintains his consistency and keeps on making valuable contributions to the side, then the club definitely must keep him beyond the summer.

Until now, Tillman has shown flashes of brilliance, and there can be no question about his vast potential. Considering the fact that he is only 20, there is huge room for development.

Beale could make him even better. Under Beale, Rangers are expected to play a cavalier, expansive game where forwards will be asked to express themselves.

It should work in favour of Tillman who loves to dribble and tear defences apart with his mazy runs.

In other Rangers news, an out-of-court agreement could be reached for the Gers as documents have been submitted.
