Rangers elementary defending in clash v Hibernian is alarming – Gordon Parks

Daily Record Sport journalist Gordon Parks believes the Rangers defending against Hibernian was at times elementary and really alarming.

Michael Beale got off to a winning start against Hibernian on 15 December in a 3-2 win at Ibrox, but the Gers defending in the first half left much to be desired.

Speaking on the PLZ Soccer YouTube channel, Parks expressed his concerns at the “alarming” Rangers defence who were making “elementary errors”.

“John Lundstram looked like a fish out of water at the back,” said Parks on the PLZ Soccer YouTube channel.

“When you make basic elementary mistakes like that at the back with the organisation Rangers should have had… really alarming and something they have to learn from.”

Facts.

The makeshift defence Beale conjured up in his first Scottish Premiership game was woeful and it made Hibernian look far better than they actually are.

Surely things can only improve from here with the likes of Connor Goldson and Leon King returning to action but it was a poor defensive display, to say the least.

If the team face any chance of a Scottish Premiership title push, this is something that needs to be drastically sorted out.

Going forward the Gers actually looked threatening all night which was positive, but this means nothing if opposition teams can drive a bus through your defence.

Ben Davies came on and made the Gers defence look more steady, he must surely start now in games for Beale moving forward.

The Lundstram experiment at the heart of the Light Blues defence certainly didn’t pay dividends and with luck, fans will never have to see that again.

In other Rangers news, Beale has revealed what he he told his players at half-time in their 3-2 comeback win over Hibs.
