Rangers stance on signing Ryan Porteous emerges after he scores against them in win v Hibernian

Rangers reportedly do not appear to be interested in signing Hibernian midfielder Ryan Porteous and there has been no contact between the clubs.

According to a report from The Times, Rangers are unlikely to make any contact with Hibs to sign Porteous but his latest performance might cause Michael Beale to think again.

The Bears won 3-2 against Hibs on Thursday (15 December) in the Scottish Premiership in Beale’s first game in charge. Porteous was on the scoresheet for the visitors, but goals from Fashion Sakala, Ryan Jack, and Alfredo Morelos sealed the tie in the Gers’ favour.

Rangers

Unlikely

It was a brave performance from Hibs at Ibrox, and Porteous was really impressive.

In fact, he wasn’t playing in his natural position either. He lined up in central midfield and many felt that he might not be in the right frame of mind.

However, he managed to score within just eight minutes to give his side the lead. He followed up with a mischievous celebration leaving the home fans angry.

Rangers are missing a host of key players, especially in defence, and therefore it probably makes sense to sign a new centre-back in January.

The likes of Connor Goldson, Ben Davies and John Souttar are set to return at some point next year, but until they are welcomed back, there will be a void at the back.

Porteous has only six months left on his contract and he has made it clear that he won’t sign a new deal at the club.

He will have plenty of options in the coming weeks, but it will be a major surprise if he ends up joining Rangers in January.

In other Rangers news, an out-of-court agreement could be reached for the Gers as documents have been submitted.
