Jack Ross wowed by ‘terrific’ Malik Tillman as Sky Sports show footage from Rangers win v Hibernian

Jack Ross was impressed with Malik Tillman’s awareness to help set up Alfredo Morelos’ winner for Rangers against Hibernian.

The American notched two assists as Michael Beale’s side came from behind twice to get his Ibrox tenure off to a winning start.

Ross praised the attacking midfielder for his composure to pass to Morelos for the winner instead of trying to score himself.

“I think it’s about finding out where to exactly play him. For me, there are similarities with Joe Aribo when he was here because he can play as part of a front three or as part of a midfield three,” said Ross (Sky Sports Football, 16 December, 10:00pm)

“I think he has that quality higher up the park. What he does so well is run beyond. James McFadden mentioned about the quality of the pass in the second half but also having runners beyond.

“It’s there he comes into his real quality with his feet in the box and then you have the decision-making aspect here. To have the awareness of where Morelos is rather than stab it at goal is terrific.”

Impressive

It was an impressive performance from Tillman and he could go on to be an important part of Beale’s plans in the coming weeks and months. The Gers have the option to buy him for £6million (BILD journalist, Christian Falk, 14 September) and that certainly looks more likely now the 42-year-old is in charge.

Beale has already made it clear that he wants the 20-year-old to stay at Ibrox beyond his loan spell (BBC Sport, 10 December) and if he performs well in the second half of the season, there’s every chance the Gers could splash the cash on Tillman.

Rangers

Considering his age and the potential that he has, it’s a move the board should be looking to go down. He’s far from the finished article, but with Beale’s faith and a consistent run of games, there’s no reason why he can’t go on to be a big success story for the Light Blues in the future.

In other Rangers news, an out-of-court agreement could be reached for the Gers as documents have been submitted.
