Chris Sutton believes Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has been a ‘disgrace’ this season at Ibrox

Chris Sutton has labelled Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos a “disgrace” and insists he must score more goals under new manager Michael Beale.

The Gers striker has blown hot and cold so far this season but netted the winning goal in Beale’s first game as manager, as Rangers came from behind to claim a 3-2 victory over Hibernian.

The Columbian has netted four goals this season in 13 appearances but was one of the majorly underperforming players during the tenure of Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Speaking alongside Ally McCoist on BT Sport’s show, Scottish Football Extra, Sutton dissected the striker’s performances at the club in quite a brutal fashion.

He said: “Morelos, all season, has been a disgrace all season.

“Now Michael Beale coming in might get more out of him, but his numbers should be better with the talent he has.”

Hot and cold

Morelos has always been a controversial figure for Rangers over the years.

At his very best, he can be unplayable, leading the line, and scoring goals in a deadly manner that few defences can withstand.

However, this glimmer of quality comes once every few games for the Gers, and this quite simply isn’t good enough for a centre-forward at a club of Rangers’ magnitude.

Can Beale rely on the Columbian to deliver for his side week in and week out? No, he can’t.

With the Premiership title race always coming down to the finest of margins, and one or two losses often pivotal at the end of the season, one poor performance from Morelos could spell disaster for the Gers.

Yes, he might be a short-term fix for Beale at the club, but surely the Englishman will look to dip into the transfer market in the summer and bring some new attacking reinforcements into the club.

In other Rangers news, an out-of-court agreement could be reached for the Gers as documents have been submitted.
