Rangers to cash in on Borna Barisic as FIFA payment revealed – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…

Rangers will cash in on Borna Barisic’s time with Croatia at the World Cup but his fitness once he returns to Scotland is also important, according to Tam McManus.

Barisic, 30, reached the semi-finals of the World Cup with Croatia in Qatar before being on the losing side against a Lionel Messi-inspired Argentina on Tuesday (13 December).

FIFA’s Club Benefit Payments Programme means Rangers have received thousands of pounds for Barisic’s involvement at the World Cup.

As per The Scotsman, £8,000 is paid to a club for each day one of their players has been in Qatar at the World Cup.

It is understood that in total, the Gers will be paid £282,000 in total for Barisic’s involvement.

McManus believes that money will go a long way for the Light Blues, while Celtic are also set to receive a similar sum for Josip Juranovic’s role in Croatia’s march to the semi-finals.

“It’s good money for Rangers thanks to that rule. Croatia will play in the 3rd and 4th-place play-off as well so Rangers will be cashing in on that,” McManus told Ibrox News.

Celtic will do as well as they’ve had players there.

Rangers

Rangers will want Barisic to come back fit and ready to go.

They’ve got a young boy in there at left-back (Adam Devine) and I don’t think they want to start him as he’s more of one for the future.

They’ll want Barisic back in.

He and James Tavernier are the two regular full-backs and they’ll want them both playing by Christmas and the New Year.”

In other Rangers news, an out-of-court agreement could be reached for the Gers as documents have been submitted.
