Rangers set for ‘huge failure’ over Ryan Kent after what Douglas Park said – Chris Jack

Chris Jack has pointed out that Rangers are set for “huge failure” over Ryan Kent if they fail to tie him down on a new contract.

Kent has a contract at Ibrox until the end of the season, and Michael Beale has confirmed on Wednesday (14 December) that there’s been no update on whether he will sign a new deal at the club.

The Bears paid around £7 million to sign him from Liverpool permanently in 2019, and it will be a failure in terms of business if they lose him for free at the end of the season.

Rangers

Rangers had opportunities previously to sell Kent at a high price when there was interest in him from Premier League clubs and especially Leeds United, but they are themselves to blame for this situation.

Douglas Park said in the AGM (6 December) that the board have “tried to negotiate with those [Alfredo Morelos and Kent] players”, and that they have done their best.

“Kent would be the bigger loss of the two,” wrote Jack for Herald Scotland.

“Signed for £7 million from Liverpool, it would be a huge failure in a business sense if Rangers were to fail to recoup a penny for a player that was once the subject of a sizeable approach from Leeds United.”

Difficult

Kent has gone through terrible form this season, and there’s no way it would earn him a move to the Premier League in January.

Make no mistake, he is a superb player. On his day, he can be as good as anybody. But those moments are very rare.

He can conjure up moments of brilliance, but he appalls more than he appeases. There is a lack of output from his game – a player of his calibre should be contributing more in terms of goals and assists.

Rangers

Michael Beale previously worked with him at Ibrox and he can play a pivotal role in getting the best out of the winger. If he can reach the level many expect him to be and commit his future, Rangers can reap the benefit of his prime years.

However, it’s not clear what he wants to do next. If Kent doesn’t want to commit, the club should look to sell him, but definitely, the club can’t recoup the money they paid for him.

In other Rangers news, an out-of-court agreement could be reached for the Gers as documents have been submitted.
