Journalist wouldn’t ‘write off’ Alfredo Morelos staying at Rangers despite Ibrox contract standoff
Alfredo Morelos could still stay at Rangers despite the club failing to agree a new deal with the Colombian, according to Dean Jones.
The Herald’s Chris Jack has suggested (14 December) it would be a “bitter end” for the striker to leave Ibrox on a free transfer.
The 26-year-old is yet to agree a new deal and at the moment looks destined to leave Rangers either in January or when his contract expires in the summer. However, Jones has suggested there’s still a chance he could remain at the SPFL giants.

“We’ve seen this so many times. It looks like a player’s going and going and going, and then suddenly, they’re staying,” said the former Bleacher Report journalist (GIVEMESPORT, 15 December).
“So, I just wouldn’t write it off until we see how he starts the season when it gets underway again.”
Unlikely
Out of Morelos and Ryan Kent, it does feel as if Kent would be the more likely to commit his future to the Gers. Kent has shown glimpses this season to suggest that he’s an asset for the club moving forward, the same cannot be said for Morelos.
The Colombian has not performed in the 2022/23 season, and it will have to take a special upturn in form for Michael Beale to see the striker as one of his first choices. Potentially moving him on in January for a minimal fee could be a good option.

Realistically, he should’ve been sold in the summer, with it becoming abundantly clear that the striker wasn’t going to sign a new deal with the club. Sadly, the transfer business in the summer of 2022, left the club with no option but to hold on to the 26-year-old.
Beale has three games before the January window to really assess which players will be part of his long-term plans. With that in mind, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a number of players leave the club in the winter window.
In other Rangers news, an out-of-court agreement could be reached for the Gers as documents have been submitted.
