Official Rangers partner wants Borna Barisic to be given new deal after interesting information emerges

Heart & Hand’s David Edgar has jokingly said he wants Rangers left-back Borna Barisic to be given a new contract for as long as he wants.

The club’s official partner took to Twitter to share his reaction to interesting information on Barisic shared by the Twitter account “The Upshot”.

Barisic is currently playing in the World Cup for Croatia, and he could be involved in some capacity as they take on Argentina in the semi-final.

The Upshot alleged that Barisic is the son of a terrifying gangster. In 2017, when Barisic accused Dinamo Zagreb of sabotaging his transfer to Dynamo Kyiv, masked men were said to have shot Dinamo executive Zdravko Mamić in the legs.

Via Twitter, Heart and Hand founder Edgar wrote, “Can I just say, publicly, that I think Borna should be given a new contract for as long as he wants and also that he is nice.”

Joke

Definitely, it was a light-hearted joke from Heart and Hand in reaction to the gun incident.

Barisic could end up winning the World Cup with Croatia and if that happens, it would be a matter of great pride for Rangers as well.

The Croatian defender was linked with a move away from Ibrox during the summer transfer to Turkey (The Scotsman,11 June), but the deal didn’t materialise.

When Ridden Yilmaz arrived from Besiktas, it felt like Barisic would struggle for game time. But, the 30-year-old was a regular starter under Giovanni van Bronckhorst and did a decent job.

Barisic is a brilliant crosser but he can be vulnerable at the back. His performances against Celtic in recent matches have been horrible.

He has a contract at the club until 2024, and doubts remain about whether Rangers would be at all willing to extend his stay.

Barisic can still be an effective player if properly used, and it remains to be seen how Michael Beale uses him going forward.

In other Rangers news, Michael Beale has outlined his desire to sign Malik Tillman on a permanent basis.
