Rangers could be set to complete a double transfer raid for Hearts striker James Wilson and Alex Kpakpe with their academy growing stronger, according to The Athletic.

Jordan Campbell has reported that there is growing hope of Wilson picking the project at Ibrox despite increasing competition from the likes of Celtic and Manchester United.

It is also shared that Kpakpe has already played in a bounce game for the Bears after leaving Chelsea due to illness and injury through the years back in November to become available.

Writing in his latest column for The Athletic, Campbell shared the latest transfer news with a double move well and truly now on the cards at Ibrox.

“They are also pursuing James Wilson from Hearts and have identified other talents they view as elite and believe will choose the project at Rangers over others,” he wrote.

“There is also interest in Alex Kpakpe, the 18-year-old defender who left Chelsea last month after several years disrupted due to injury and illness. He has played in a bounce game already and could join as an academy signing.”

Smart.

Of course, this will not take the spotlight off Ross Wilson, but no one can complain about this one.

Consistently adding to your academy with smart signings is brilliant work behind the scenes, and it is work that has made Rangers a lot of money recently.

Calvin Bassey joined from Leicester as a nobody years ago and has brought in more than £20million in transfer fees since joining Ajax over the summer.

Johnly Yfeko was the next cab off the rank to arrive at Auchenhowie, and now we could see Wilson and Kpakpe make the move to Glasgow for little to nothing in terms of cash outlay.

Wilson especially looks to be exciting with big clubs from south of the border said to be interested in picking up the young striker, something who could replace his namesake, Rory.

This is a long-term transfer strategy that must continue in each window, with the potential to keep growing on the pitch and financially off it, simply huge.
