Rangers out-of-court settlement on the cards as documents submitted over £1.6m lawsuit – pundit
We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Tam McManus believes Rangers could reach an out-of-court agreement with the organisers of the Sydney Super Cup in order to avoid being sued for £1.6million.
As per The Athletic on 29 November, documents have already been submitted to Australian court, saying “Rangers could be liable for up to £1.6million if the case put forward by TEG and Left Field is successful”.
The Light Blues were due to play Celtic in a mid-season friendly tournament that was dubbed as Ange Postecoglou’s homecoming.

After an angry reaction from fans on social media, the Gers backed out.
At the AGM earlier this week, nothing was mentioned about the Sydney Super Cup, leaving McManus baffled.
He believes the Govan outfit need to start being more careful after previously losing money in a court battle with Mike Ashley [Daily Record] while Hummel is also suing the 2021/22 Europa League finalists for £9.5million in lost kit sales [Insider].
“It’s interesting nothing was mentioned [at the AGM] about Sydney or why Rangers pulled out, which was surprising,” McManus told Ibrox News. “But listen, it’s the last thing you want with the Hummel thing as well.

“Rangers have already been stung by Mike Ashley and Sports Direct so this is something they need to keep their eye on.
“Rangers will want to sort it out before it maybe goes to court or whatever.
“Maybe some kind of settlement can be reached out of court so they can get away from it.
“There’s no doubt, for me, that the organisers of the event in Sydney were really angry they pulled out and they’ll be looking for some kind of compensation.”
The Sydney Super Cup did go ahead earlier in this mid-season break with Everton replacing the Gers.
In other Rangers news, this prolific goalscorer is “excited” by speculation linking him with a move to Ibrox in January.
