Rangers can profit from shrewd transfer move for Josh Onomah in January

Rangers have been linked with a January loan move for Fulham midfield maestro Josh Onomah, according to Birmingham Live on 7 December.

The 25-year-old has been targeted by new Rangers boss Michael Beale before with the report suggesting the Englishman tried to sign Onomah at Queens Park Rangers.

Rangers can profit from a shrewd move for the midfielder whose end product has been described as “superb” by BBC pundit Trevor Sinclair.

“His awareness and his change of direction with the ball and his passing ability, you know sometimes you’re talking about getting in uncomfortable positions and players panic, but he doesn’t,” said Sinclair about Onomah during England’s U20 World Cup final victory against Venezuela on 11 June 2017 as quoted by Football London.

“He just holds them off, he knows how strong he is and his end product has been superb. I’ve been really impressed with his performance.”

Pedigree.

Now, whilst we can’t get too carried away by quotes made in 2017 during a youth World Cup final, it does highlight the pedigree Onomah would bring with him to Ibrox.

The Rangers squad is in need of a desperate refresh and talented players like the Fulham midfielder can come in with a fresh set of ideas.

Onomah is out of contract at the end of this season, so a loan move for the midfielder in January with a view to buy may be the perfect option for all parties involved.

This would allow Beale to see whether Rangers can profit from having Onomah involved in their midfield or whether he’d be surplus to requirements at Ibrox.

Beale is clearly a fan of the ace already, having tried to bring him into QPR when he was managing there, and his judgement of players must be trusted moving forward.

All in all, this could be a savvy little deal to make, Onomah could flourish in the slower-paced Scottish Premiership and more game time could be the key ingredient for him to get his career back on track.

In other Rangers news, the Light Blues want to sign a teenage sensation from another Scottish club who are “powerless” to stop it from happening.
