Lyndon Dykes delivers ‘crazy’ verdict on Michael Beale Rangers move

QPR striker Lyndon Dykes has suggested Michael Beale’s switch to Ibrox was “crazy” as the former QPR boss sealed his return to Rangers.

The 42-year-old decided to leave the Championship side after just 21 games of the 2022/23 season after previously turning down the Wolverhampton Wanderers hot seat.

However, the Ibrox job was too big to refuse and Dykes has since spoken out on the manner of Beale’s departure from QPR.

“We all got on with the manager – he was great,” said Dykes (quoted by the South London Press, 9 December).

“He came in and knew what he wanted to do straight away – he was very firm, and his training sessions were very good.

“We were all disappointed to see him leave. It’s football, and it’s so crazy sometimes – it moves so quickly. An opportunity came up for him, and he decided to go for that. We all wished him all the best.”

The 27-year-old was previously linked with Rangers in January 2022 with TEAMTalk (10 January) suggesting that Rangers had joined Newcastle United in looking to bring the Scotland international north of the border.

No loyalty in football

QPR hired Beale knowing that he was going to use the club as a stepping stone and that should come as no surprise to fans of the Championship side. The issue has come with how quickly he’s landed himself a better job. If he had been in West London for two or three years and then moved on, then it wouldn’t have been a problem.

The Rangers job doesn’t come up too often and the 42-year-old simply couldn’t turn the chance down, as there’s a good chance the opportunity wouldn’t have come up again.

Furthermore, it’s good to see former players praising Beale’s coaching style. The Championship is an unforgiving and competitive league and Beale seemed to deal with the challenge well during his short time with QPR.

All eyes will now be on his first game in charge against Hibernian on 15 December as the Gers get their Scottish Premiership campaign back up and running.

In other Rangers news, this prolific goalscorer is “excited” by speculation linking him with a move to Ibrox in January.
