Ally McCoist concerned by Rangers situation with ‘exceptional’ Ryan Kent
Ryan Kent’s Rangers contract expires in the summer, and Ally McCoist has raised concerns about the club’s willingness to let his deal run down.
Kent has spent three years at Ibrox since joining the club from Liverpool, but the 26-year-old’s stay in Glasgow could end in the summer should he not agree to a new deal.

McCoist has given his verdict on the situation and expressed his concern at how the club have handled the winger’s deal.
“Ryan Kent was exceptional during the European run, some of his performances were amazing but his consistency levels have dropped and if he wants to move on to another club then he has to perform better,” McCoist told Grosvenor Sport, as quoted by Glasgow Live.
“I’m a little concerned that their contracts have been allowed to run down and as I said, the next couple of months are going to be vital.”
Too little, too late
Rangers should have moved quickly to extend Kent’s deal last season during his scintillating form in Europe. His form this season has hardly warranted a new contract but at the same time, Gers are aware of his lofty potential.
Kent has often looked uninterested this season, which suggests he already has half an eye on leaving Ibrox.

If that’s the case, then so be it – but losing him without picking up any transfer fee at all is the latest example of this board’s incompetence.
Just last year Leeds were ready to cough up £15million for Kent’s signature [MOT Leeds News], but he now threatens to walk for free. With Rangers desperate to balance the books and gain financial stability, decisions like this are inexcusable.
Ross Wilson and Michael Beale need to make sure the contract situation at Ibrox improves quickly. If Kent and Morelos are set on leaving then the club need to move on, but there are important lessons to be learned from their latest contract chaos.
