Rangers teenager Jack Harkness pens new three-year Auchenhowie deal

Rangers have confirmed that teenage defender Jack Harkness has signed a new three-year deal at Ibrox having impressed in the B team.

The 18-year-old has emerged in David McCallum’s side this season and broken into the starting lineup having begun the season on the bench and the Light Blues have now rewarded him with a new deal.

His fresh terms will see him contracted to the club until the summer of 2025 but he will remain with the B team for the foreseeable future as he continues his rise up the ranks.

“We are delighted that Jack has extended his stay with Rangers,” Academy Director Craig Mulholland said.

“His progress over the last 18 months transitioning from the 18’s to the B Team has been very positive and we have seen him grow as a player and a person, also receiving his first international recognition with Scotland Under-19’s.”

Trust

It can be difficult for the biggest teams in the country to put faith in their youngsters when they have such a strong senior squad but the best always manage to force their way into the equation.

Given how smoothly Harkness has transitioned into the B team this season, he could easily do the same with the first team in the next few years as he gains experience with every minute he is on the pitch.

He isn’t the only young starlet hoping to follow in the footsteps of Leon King, Alex Lowry and Adam Devine and making their debuts in the Rangers first team in the near future.

Robbie Ure has been banging on the door this season and Zak Lovelace has settled extremely well into life in Glasgow after joining the club from Millwall in the summer.

McCallum is doing a terrific job with the B team at the moment, who sit top of the Lowland League by five points, and the more they succeed on the pitch, the better it will be for the senior squad.
