Graham Spiers reacts to footage as Ross Wilson is dismantled at Rangers AGM
The Rangers shareholder who wanted answers from Ross Wilson over transfer failures was bearing a metaphorical “dagger” in Graham Spiers’ words.
The sporting director was left shaking his head while ineffective transfer moves were listed to him, as he disputed the numbers that were being cited, while new manager Michael Beale sitting next to him could feel the heat coming off the line of questioning.
Stewart Robertson dismissed the question over Wilson’s suitability for the job, but the point was made in no uncertain terms, that there is a section of the support who are not impressed with his recent record.
On his personal Twitter account along with a clip of the question Spiers wrote: “Calm, measured and bearing a dagger…”
Hit the target
Wilson clearly didn’t enjoy listening to the question, and while it may be frustrating to him if the prices quotes were inaccurate that is an occupational hazard if the fees aren’t made public.
Beale reacted to the final part of the question about Wilson’s future as if he felt it was harsh, which he surely would given the pair’s close relationship is thought to have been crucial to the manager’s return.
But neither will have been able to miss the fact that the transfer record is under scrutiny heading into the January window.

Both will likely out of a job together if the former coach can’t turn things around in the hot seat, and there is heavy scepticism currently that he can get the better of Celtic from some quarters.
On the whole the board got off pretty lightly at the AGM, perhaps given that the sting was taken out of the affair but the optimism that comes with Beale’s return.
Until he gets a few game under his belt it will be difficult to comment on a playing squad that has looked well short under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but could be rejuvenated by the ex-QPR boss.
The mood may have lifted since he got to work at Auchenhowie but the league table and the form book still looks the same as when the Dutchman was in charge prior to the World Cup so there is plenty of work still to do, not least in the transfer market.
In other Rangers news, a first new arrival has already been lined up with confidence that a deal can be struck to bring him to Scotland.
