Rangers have to move on from Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent amid ‘unattainable’ admission

For months on end, Rangers have been desperately trying to get Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos to sign new deals at Ibrox long-term.

Hiring Michael Beale, who both have worked with before during Steven Gerrard’s reign, could have been a catalyst for the pair of them to reconsider their hopes of leaving Glasgow for a new challenge.

But all of the signs are now pointing towards them exiting Auchenhowie in the summer when their current contracts expire and Rangers will get nothing for them as a result.

Douglas Park even admitted in Tuesday’s Annual General Meeting (6 December) that offers had been put in front of the Englishman and Colombian but the responses were too far away for negotiation.

“The board tried to negotiate and sometimes if the terms are unattainable you have to accept you have done your best,” Park said, as quoted by the Daily Record.

Unless they suddenly find their purple patch when the season resumes, it is safe to assume neither will be Rangers players for much longer so now is the time for the whole club to move on from trying.

If they’re willing to give it absolutely everything until the end of the season then it is worth keeping them around given how good they can be on their day.

But if the form they have shown so far this season persists then the club might as well try to get some money back for them and avoid making a huge financial loss in the summer.

If Ross Wilson decides to dangle the carrot to potential suitors plenty of them will jump on the treadmill and try to grab a bite which will only drum up more interest and potentially more money as a result.

In other Rangers news, Hugh Keevins has made a startling demand of the new manager at Ibrox with incredibly lofty ambitions for the 2022-23 season.
