Rangers news on Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent contracts shared

Rangers duo Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent could both remain at the club as new manager Michael Beale decides who is part of his plans at Ibrox, according to Dean Jones.

Kent and Morelos, both 26, run out of contract this summer and have been linked with exits from the club under previous manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Colombian forward was especially important to Beale during his previous spell at Rangers as assistant to Steven Gerrard but has come under fire this campaign following several underwhelming performances.

However, despite these running-down contracts, Jones believes the pair may stay at the Glasgow club beyond the summer of 2023.

The journalist told Give Me Sport: “I think there’s a chance that they could stay because I’m expecting new life from this team.

“And I’m sure that they are expecting new life and everybody else, too, and perhaps more ambition as well.”

Kent crucial

If Beale is to get the immediate impact he dearly wants during the festive period, the role Kent plays will be crucial.

The 26-year-old winger has been blowing hot and cold so far this season but has the capability to terrorise defences on his day and be Rangers’ main source of creativity.

Penning Kent down to a new contract will be one of Beale’s first priorities, but he will have to instil fresh confidence in the Englishman, who has netted just one goal this season from 13 appearances.

Combined, both Kent and Morelos could form a deadly forward partnership, but the Colombian’s involvement may come as a shocking surprise to fans considering his poor start to the season.

The centre forward has always lacked the required discipline to be fully trusted by his previous managers, and it will be interesting to see how Beale views the undoubtedly talented Columbian forward at Ibrox.
