Club 1872 vote against Douglas Park reappointment ahead of Rangers AGM

Rangers fan group Club 1872 have decided to vote against the reappointment of Douglas Park as the director of the club ahead of the AGM on Tuesday [6 December].

According to Football Scotland, Dave King has also vowed to vote against the current club chairman, and as it stands, more than 60 per cent of contributors have now decided to vote against Park from remaining as the director at the club.

Park has made serious investments over the years but the majority of the fans are not happy with how the club is being run and want him to be removed from the role of club chairman.

“All the shares held by Club 1872 Shares CIC and Club 1872 Projects CIC will now be voted in accordance with Contributors’ wishes. Club 1872 will vote against Resolutions 2, 7 and 8 and for all other Resolutions,” a statement issued by Club 1872.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our Contributors for their ongoing support.”

AGM questions

The Rangers AGM promises to be a stormy affair tomorrow as the supporters have a number of major issues, mostly that deals with finances and the performance of the club.

There has been no communication at the moment about the vision of the club from board members, and the chairman will have to answer about the long-term plans.

The ticket pricing in three Champions League home games this season was excessively high. The Bears lost all their games in Europe and became the worst-performing club ever in group stages in Champions League history. This doesn’t simply reconcile.

Questions need to be asked about why the club fared poorly in the Champions League after reaching the final of the Europa League last season.

Then comes the problem of recruitment and the lack of transparency about transfer funds, and this is where Ross Wilson has fared horribly. Keith Jackson wrote for The Daily Record [5 December] where he suggested that Michael Beale is doomed to fail if he is not properly backed in the market.

Ahead of the AGM, the withdrawal of support from Club 1872 will come as a massive blow for Park.

In other Rangers news, this prolific goalscorer is “excited” by speculation linking him with a move to Ibrox in January.
