£10m+ lawsuit talks likely to be held at Rangers AGM with trouble expected

Rangers are likely to face questions surrounding their current lawsuits that could see them pay out £11.1m at their AGM this week, according to the Daily Record.

The Gers have been as active in the courtroom as they have been on the football pitch over the last 12 months, and despite being successful in one such instance against the SPFL they’re still embroiled in other disputes.

With the AGM set to take place on Tuesday (6 December), the Daily Record have reported what they expect will be spoken about with fans and listed the lawsuits and potential turbulence between club and supporters surrounding those issues to be aired out.

“Rangers haven’t been strangers to a court battle in the last 12 months,” they wrote.

“It all started with that lengthy, messy battle with the SPFL over their refusal to display branding with league sponsor and online car dealer Cinch due to a conflict with the club’s own deal with chairman Douglas Park’s motor group.

“It was a battle they eventually won as they were vindicated over their stance having cited a rule in the SPFL rulebook that they didn’t have to oblige to a sponsorship contract “if to do so would result in that club being in breach of a contractual obligation entered into prior to the commercial contract concerned.”

“But having won that, they now find themselves at the centre of two more battles.

“Elite Sports Ltd, who have since gone into administration, are the exclusive brand partner of Hummel sportswear, and are claiming breach of contract following the collapse of that agreement.

“And the second dispute is over Gers withdrawal from the Sydney Super Cup – the decision to take part alongside rivals Celtic in the first place will almost certainly come up – which led to fan protests. The club face a combined £11.1 million payout.”

We need answers

It’s been a long road but with the AGM now finally in sight it seems like Rangers fans will finally get the answers we deserve to the questions we’ve all been asking.

The club has been a mess for a long time off the pitch now and only seems to be getting worse with every passing story that comes out, so someone needs to clear things up so that we know what is going on.

With so many lawsuits recently, the club must have a plan or be confident of success, but the fans want assurances that we won’t see a repeat of 2012 where things just spiralled out of control.

The team has suffered on the pitch because of a lack of investment into the playing squad in recent years, despite huge injections of cash from playing in the Champions League, reaching the Europa League final and selling our best players for big sums.

If money is going out of the club on court cases rather than improving the team, we all deserve to know why that’s being prioritised when it is so easily avoidable to begin with.
