Sir Kenny Dalglish tips Micheal Beale to secure Rangers ‘bargain’ signings in January

Sir Kenny Dalglish suggests that Rangers’ new boss Michael Beale needs to sign a few players in the January market to bolster the squad.

The legendary Scottish player wrote on Sunday Post (4 December, page 20), that Beale will need money to bring “better players” to the club in January.

Dalglish wants to see the new Gers boss follow Steven Gerrard’s footsteps and sign players on bargain deals, like the one they did with Glen Kamara a few years ago.

“It will be interesting to see what funds are made available to him by the Rangers hierarchy,” wrote Dalglish for Sunday Post.

“Michael is on record as saying he has a really strong squad but they need to find better players.

“They didn’t do so last summer when they sold Calvin Bassey and Joe Aribo. They didn’t get similar quality in.

“So, Michael will look to unearth players of that calibre as soon as possible. He’ll also look for bargains, such as the deal that got Glen Kamara from Dundee during Michael’s first spell at Ibrox.

“Steven was good at doing that, and Michael will need to emulate that as quickly as possible.”

Big window

Dalglish is absolutely spot on here. The January window is massive for the club, and Beale must get his signing spot on.

During the summer, the Bears lost two important players in Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey, and their replacements haven’t performed to the expected levels.

Apart from Antonio Colak, none of the summer signings made a huge impact.

The defence is one area that may need bolstering. Connor Goldson is likely to return after the World Cup, but the long-term injury to John Souttar could force the Gers boss to bring in another player, even on loan.

The Bears could also look to sign a new striker and an attacking midfielder if they fail to secure long-term deals for Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent.

Beale could be forced to sell the duo in January, with their contracts set to expire at the end of the season. The 42-year-old manager will need more than two transfer windows to shape the squad to his own taste, and hopefully the club will give him the time to do it.

In other Rangers news, a former Ibrox chief has slammed the current board for their decision to hire Beale.
