Ross Wilson shares what Rangers board have said about transfers – Sky Sports

Ross Wilson has revealed the Rangers board gave Michael Beale assurances that he will be fully backed in the January transfer window during his interview.

The 42-year-old was brought into the Ibrox dugout after the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, with the Gers sitting nine points behind league-leaders Celtic after a dire start to the season.

The Englishman was previously part of Steven Gerrard’s coaching staff at Rangers and Aston Villa, before moving on to QPR – where he quickly made them promotion contenders with an exciting, attacking brand of football.

With Beale getting to grips with his squad during the World Cup break – and likely to want fresh faces in January – Wilson admitted there had been assurances to the 42-year-old during his interview for the role.

Speaking at the manager’s first live press conference, and reported live by Sky Sports on December 1, the sporting director said: “We spoke about that over the interview process last week.

“So Michael first and foremost wants to assess what’s here.

“Probably about three-quarters of the squad he already knows very well so he’ll probably get to grips again as to where the boys are at today, as well as familiarize himself with the new players as well, but there is certainly an assurance if Michael wants to do something in the market.

“From the board’s point of view, we’ll try and back him as much as we possibly can.”

Much-needed

The news that Wilson will support Beale in the January transfer window does not come as a surprise, with the squad in dire need of re-vamping, just over a year after the 42-year-old last found himself at the club.

The likes of Alfredo Morelos have failed to inspire this season, and extra reinforcements will be needed especially in attacking areas due to his lack of potency in front of goal.

With the Gers currently sitting nine points behind Celtic in the league, changes need to made fast, and whatever Beale wants, he should be given.

All is not lost for Rangers in the league yet, and although facing an uphill struggle to try and reel the Hoops in, they should by no means write the season off.

The board and Wilson made the correct decision in sacking Van Bronckhorst during the World Cup break, and can now please the fanbase by splashing the cash in January.
