We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Alfredo Morelos will be happy to see Michael Beale back at Rangers but there’s still a chance he could leave in January, according to Tam McManus.
Morelos, 26, has returned to Auchenhowie for training after spending some time away with his friends and family in Colombia.
Before the World Cup break started last month, Morelos’ form hit rock bottom at Ibrox with the striker scoring just three goals in 19 appearances across all competitions this term for Giovanni van Bronkhorst.
By the time next month starts, the January transfer window will be open and clubs will be able to approach Morelos to speak about a pre-contract deal as his contract at Ibrox still expires at the end of the season.
McManus believes that decisions will be made in the coming weeks about who to let go in January and he feels Morelos could still be happy to move on in the winter window even though Beale is back at Ibrox.
“Morelos will be happy that somebody he knows [has come in],” McManus told Ibrox News.
“We don’t know the personal relationships that Beale has with them but he’ll know a lot about them. He’ll know who he wants to keep and who he wants to get rid of.
“He’s got a month now to work with the players before the January window opens so it’s up to the players to show to him they want to be a part of his plans. They’ve got a month to do that, they’ve got some games to play over the Christmas period to show they want to stay.
“We won’t know if they want to stay or not, particularly Morelos, who might want to leave and go elsewhere.
“There’ll be a lot of conversations going on between the manager and the players, particularly those going out of contract.
“Whatever decision Beale makes, he’ll get backed by the Rangers fans.”
In other Rangers news, a former Ibrox chief has slammed the current board for their decision to hire Beale.
