Rangers to find Steven Davis replacement as they close in on swoop for Standard Liege ace Nicolas Raskin
We’re delighted to welcome Tam McManus as our exclusive Rangers columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Ibrox…
Tam McManus has backed Rangers to refresh their squad in the coming transfer windows amid speculation linking Standard Liege midfielder Nicolas Raskin with Ibrox.
The Daily Record reported on 18 November that the 21-year-old Belgian is edging closer to a move to Ibrox with contract talks at Liege failing.
Raskin’s current terms expire at the end of the season.
McManus believes Michael Beale’s newly-inherited midfield is crying out for a breath of fresh life due to a number of ageing players in that area.
Raskin could be someone to come in and freshen things up, he suggests.
“I was saying last week that I think there’ll be a lot of players linked with Rangers and they are desperate for quality,” McManus told Ibrox News.
“Not only did they have a bad summer window but they’ve also got an ageing team.
“Guys like Steven Davis and Scott Arfield have been terrific servants but now they’re getting into their mid-to-late-30s, Rangers need that bit of youth and energy in the middle of the pitch.
“Rangers will be scouring everywhere for players and if they can bring in quality – whether that’s from the Belgian league or the Dutch league – then I’m sure they’ll be wanting to do that.”

Raskin is a central midfielder who can also sit deep in a holding role.
The Belgium Under-21 international has played 18 times in all competitions for Liege this season, scoring one goal and supplying four assists in the process.
In other Rangers news, a former Ibrox chief has slammed the current board for their decision to hire Beale.
