John Lundstram reminisces over ‘great memories’ from Giovanni van Bronckhorst after Rangers sack

John Lundstram has sent a warm message to former Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst after he was sacked by the Ibrox club.

The Englishman answered media questions for the first time since the Dutchman was relieved of his duties and replaced by former Ibrox assistant Michael Beale.

Despite his excitement at a new era in Glasgow, Lundstram was keen to say his piece on van Bronckhorst publicly.

“I also want to say a massive thanks to Gio and his staff, I had huge respect for him,” Lundstram said to Rangers’ official website. “There were some great memories for everyone associated with the club, so I have massive respect for him and the staff as well.

“When people do leave the building they become friends so it is sad to see people go but at the same time it is football and it happens so we have to get ready to go again.”

Forget it

The memories of the Europa League final and winning the Scottish Cup will live with some of those players forever but they have to put them on the back burner now.

Beale is in charge now and he will demand complete focus on the present and the future and anybody reminiscing about the past too much will quickly find themselves out of the reckoning.

Talking about last season’s European exploits won’t do anything to paper over the cracks of this season’s Champions League embarrassment and it isn’t going to close down the gap to Celtic in the Premiership either.

Lundstram will be a key player in Beale’s revolution of the Light Blues’ team when the season resumes even though he did not play much under Steven Gerrard during his previous spell at Ibrox.

van Bronckhorst was great for a year but he failed to keep his head above water and now his era has to be forgotten for good.

In other Rangers news, Beale could do with reuniting with one of his former QPR players who has previous with the Light Blues.
