Sky Sports pundit believes Rangers ‘gamble’ underway after Michael Beale appointment
Michael Beale’s appointment as Rangers manager is a “gamble” according to Kris Boyd, but he feels his recent struggles are because he had one eye on Ibrox.
Beale was confirmed as the replacement for Giovanni van Bronckhorst on Monday (28 November), signing a 3.5 year deal at Ibrox despite having only taken charge of 22 first-team fixtures in his managerial career.
QPR lost four of their last five after Beale turned down a move to Wolves, and Boyd believes that could be because Beale was expecting a call from Rangers.

“Every appointment is a gamble or a risk, whatever way you want to look at it,” he said to Sky Sports News, via Daily Record (29 November).
“He has only had 20 odd games as a manager but he has been involved in football for a long, long time.
“He has coached in different countries, but it brings it’s own risk when you go out on your own. I’m sure QPR fans would have been saying the same things in the summer.
“He has never been a manager before, it’s a risk, and taking over from Mark Warburton with the job he has done. But he went in there and started the season really well, albeit the last few games it’s not been.
“I think there has probably been other things on Mick Beale’s mind. He was up at Ibrox a couple of weeks ago.
“He has probably had one eye on this. I know he has been very vocal on why he turned down Wolves, but Rangers is a special football club. It plays with your heart strings, and he feels as if he can go and turn it around.”
Risk
The big gamble is the fact that the club are in a horrible position domestically and needed someone to come in and turn things around immediately.

A nine-point deficit behind Celtic is a huge issue at all times, but especially pre-Christmas and with the team already eliminated from Europe after a disastrous Champions League campaign morale is at a big low.
Having barely been in the job at QPR many believe it’s too early for Beale to get a job as big as Rangers so soon, but the same could have been said about Steven Gerrard and he managed to win the league and stop Celtic’s dominance.
The decision has been made now and the club absolutely must back him to help him achieve his goals and targets. The fans have to be behind him and the team and everyone must pull together.
Everything else is in the past now, but he must show why the board have put their eggs in his basket.
