Rangers turn to former Chelsea coach Harry Watling to work as set-piece specialist
Rangers manager Michael Beale will reportedly bring former Chelsea coach Harry Watling to the club as part of his backroom overhaul.
According to Rangers Review [28 November], Watling is one of three coaches that will follow Beale to Ibrox and he’s got experience working multiple roles.
Apart from looking after set pieces, he was also a head coach in America with Hartford Athletic, who play in the division below the MLS.

Change in approach?
Set pieces are an important part of the game and they can contribute to a number of goals over the course of the season if worked on correctly.
However, in modern football, lesser emphasis has been put on them and that’s partly down to the fact of the change in playing styles.
That said, a manager can play good football and still see his side being lethal from set pieces so it’s a good thing to appoint someone like him.
At QPR, it was a very small sample size so we cannot say with certainty that he does his job well but the fact that he’s got Chelsea, two-time Champions League winners, on his CV tells you that he’s pretty accomplished in the game.
At 33, he’s also very young and that could be important at building relations with the players as that’s a very important part of the game.
Behind the scenes, harmony is crucial to every side’s success and we’re confident that Beale is the right man to do that and cannot wait to see what other changes he brings to the side.
In other Rangers news, Ross Wilson is put on high alert as a “Magnificent” midfielder is now prepared to leave his club in the January transfer window amid Ibrox links.
