Gary Keown blasts ‘indescribably awful’ Rangers as he shares the word on Michael Beale

Scottish Mail on Sunday columnist Gary Keown has suggested Rangers are “indescribably awful” and potentially a step too far for Michael Beale as he closes in on the job.

The 4th Official report Beale is very close to taking the reigns at Ibrox after spending time with the club under Steven Gerrard.

However, Keown believes the QPR boss is potentially “ill-equipped” for the job which awaits him north of the border at Rangers.

Rangers

“Word has it that Michael Beale spoke to close confidantes during the weeks about the optics of leaving QPR for Ibrox so soon into his reign at Loftus Road,” said Keown (Scottish Mail on Sunday, 27 November, page 105).

“He surely didn’t require much feedback. A blind man can see they are indescribably awful and point to the 42-year-old being ill-equipped for a job like the one sitting waiting for him at Rangers.”

Splits opinion

Beale’s appointment at Ibrox is undoubtedly going to divide opinions among fans. There are those who will be excited for a man who knows the ins and outs of the club to take the hot seat. He knows these players and has been part of recent success. Furthermore, he’s evidently an astute coach tactically and has done relatively well in his first managerial role in West London.

However, there is an argument to suggest Beale is too inexperienced to take such a big job at this early stage in his career. QPR’s form has dropped off a cliff in recent weeks and it remains to be seen if Beale has the coaching ability to turn things around.

Rangers

The main positive is that change seems to be afoot at Ibrox. Something had to change and hopefully, the departure of Giovanni van Bronckhorst will bring a new lease of life into the club.

Whoever does take the job must be backed by the board in January, with this squad desperately needing upgrading in the next two windows.

In other Rangers news, Beale’s integrity has been questioned ahead of his possible return as doubts remain.
