Rangers shortlist former defender Kevin Muscat to be new manager despite advanced talks with Michael Beale
Rangers have reportedly shortlisted former defender Kevin Muscat to be their new manager despite advanced talks with Michael Beale.
According to the Scottish Sun, senior figures Ross Wilson and Stewart Robertson have been working through a shortlist since firing Gio van Bronckhorst last Monday.
Barring Beale, there are four other names on it, with Muscat, the former Rangers man, is one of the managers being considered.

From the left field
Muscat was never among the frontrunners for the position but it now seems like he has made it to the top five.
Everything does seem to be pointing towards Beale at the moment and we will be really surprised if the club goes for anyone else.
The BBC have even reported that talks with him have reached an advanced stage but as we saw with Wolves, he can be very particular about minute details.
Should conversations break, Gers may turn to Muscat and that may not be the worst idea in the world, although it will not excite the fanbase.
He has four league titles to his name but they’ve all been in the Asia/Oceania region and two of them have even been second division championships.
Regardless, he does have experience and that’s something Beale lacks and the former assistant knows that the Ibrox job will be is in the future even if he does not end up joining them.
In other Rangers news, a four-time league winner is likely to want to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst and may even throw his CV into the mix after a major recent development.
