Pundit: Michael Beale desperate for Rangers job after what happened in October

Tam McManus believes that Michael Beale is desperate to take over the helm at Rangers after they sacked Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The former Gers assistant visited Ibrox on 29 October when the Dutchman was fighting the sack after a bad run of results in Europe as well as the SPFL.

He later said that it was only down to the fact that he’s got friends in the Rangers board, but McManus thinks there was more to the visit than met the eye.

Via Twitter, he wrote, “When he turned up at Ibrox to watch a game whilst GVB was under severe pressure (very poor imo and GVB understandably raging) it was clear he was desperate for the Rangers job.”

Right man for the job?

Beale has been a manager who’s been in the headlines in the British press for the last two months.

His good run with QPR saw them enjoy top spot in the league and even saw him being nominated for Manager of the Month in October.

After that, he was offered and then he turned down the Wolves job which leads to many wondering why he would say yes to Rangers.

However, he does have an emotional connection with the club and has friends and family he would like to live closer to.

That said, his individual record as a senior manager is far from impressive and there could be a section of the fanbase that may prefer a tried and tested option.

On the other hand, van Bronckhorst was more experienced than Steven Gerrard and it’s pretty clear which manager had the better time in charge of the 55-time champions so there is no right answer, unfortunately.

In other Rangers news, a four-time league winner is likely to want to replace Giovanni van Bronckhorst and may even throw his CV into the mix after a major recent development.
